Rocky Butte Portland Engagement Photography | Shane & Irina

Irina, Shane and I have been able to build a strong bond over the last year and I am really looking forward to their beach wedding at the end of this summer.  We photographed their first engagement session last winter along the Willamette River espionage in Portland, Oregon and their fabulous images can be seen here.   Although we got some great engagement photographs, Irina asked if I would be willing to photograph them again now that the sun is out in Portland.  I’m always up for a photography session with a fun couple so of corse I agreed!  We planned on meeting at Council Crest park in Portland, but upon my arrival Shane & Irina were no where to be found.  I finally got ahold of them and we realized they were actually at Rocky Butte Park and had accidentally told me the wrong location to meet.  Of corse this put a wrench in our plans, but fortunately I was free for the rest of afternoon and was able to drive across town and meet them at Rocky Butte in South East.  This is a prime example of how life throws you curve balls and you have to make do with what you have and it’s a great lesson for newly engaged couples and people who’ve been married for 50 years alike.  Situations will ALWAYS arise, and you have got to get back up, figure out a solution, move on and make the best out of it!  Although it was very windy and incredibly hot we persevered and created some memorable images at Rocky Butte.  The backdrop of Portland, Mount Hood and beyond was breathtaking and I hope Shane & Irina treasure these images for years to come.  Look out for their wedding photographs this September!

Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden Engagement Photography | Kammi & Max

I met Kammi and Max a few months ago and immediately I knew working with them was going to be a blast.  Upon entering my studio, Max was already cracking jokes and Kammi’s smile was lighting up the room.  We decided to photograph their engagement session at the Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden in South East Portland, Oregon near Reed College.  Max and I both spent many days exploring this oasis of Rhododendrons while we were growing up ironically, in the city of roses.  The garden, complete with two ponds, seems never ending and is in it’s best bloom the first two weeks of May.  When we arrived the garden was packed with people on a rare sunny day in Portland, but we decided to push through the crowds and I am happy we did!  I aimed to capture Max and Kammi’s care free love and light hearted personalities and I cannot wait to photograph their wedding this summer!

Life with Kayley | Mother’s Day 2013 & The Amazing Jill Hoddick

My parents have been my number one fans since 1986.  They are a constant support in my life and continue to inspire, educate and motivate me to pursue my dreams.  Today I want to thank my mom, Jill specifically.  She came from a family of artists (Google my legendary Grandmother Susan Peterson if interested) and introduced me to art at a young age.  My mother took me regularly to the theater, supported my dream to be a ballerina, encouraged me to pursue my passion for the flute and enrolled me in art classes throughout my childhood.  In 2008 when I decided I wanted to pursue photography full time, my Mom (and Dad) were always there for advice and helped me attend Hallmark Institute of Photography in 2011.

After being a Professor Emeritus of Theatre at the University of Portland for 35 years and designing costumes for over 250 productions, Jill has continued her artistic career as a fine art quilter.  Please take a moment to view her work at

We spent Mother’s Day at Skamania Lodge in Stevenson, Oregon and celebrated with a decadent brunch.  My favorite part was the chocolate fountain with ripe pineapple and a make your own bloody mary bar!

Willamette River Portland Engagement Photography | Shane & Irina

When I met Shane and Irina at my home a few months ago, I knew immediately they would be a pleasure to photograph.  We decided to photograph their engagement session along the waterfront in the freezing cold but they never complained once! I adore Irina’s bright, cheery, yellow coat and the colors throughout this session.  Enjoy and look out for their wedding images coming this September!
